How to Reach Your BIG Health & Wellness Goals

Are you struggling with your health & wellness goals? Do they seem so big or difficult that they almost paralyze you into not taking action at all? Do you tell yourself … I haven’t started yet, so why should I now? No worries, I got your back!

When our goals are too large they can seem overwhelming and we don’t even know where to start. The key is to break them down into smaller pieces that don’t seem so overwhelming. There are 4 steps to breaking down your goals.

4 Step Process To Reach Your BIG Health & Wellness Goals

When you are stuck and your goals are too overwhelming you can follow my 4-step process on breaking down your health & wellness goals so you can actually accomplish them:

  • Step 1 – Determine your top goal
  • Step 2 – Break it down
  • Step 3 – Make it achievable
  • Step 4 – Have a plan

Step 1: Determine your top goal

Be sure your top goal is reasonable, and you have control over it. Does it align with your values? Also, make sure to keep it simple and easy to follow. It also needs to be something actionable and something you can measure. For my information, click HERE.

Example: My goal is to walk/run/hike 500 miles this year.

Step 2: Break it down

Now that you know your goal for the year ask yourself what you need to do each month to reach this goal? This is a simple calculation. Take the goal and divide it by 12 (or the # of months until you would like to accomplish the goal) to set your monthly goal (Goal / 12 = monthly goal)

Example: Since my goal is to walk/run/hike 500 miles, I would divide this by 12, which is roughly 42 miles a month. I know you are saying that it still seems difficult to do but stick with me for a minute.

Next, breaking it down even further into days. Estimate how many days in the month you think you will be able to work on this goal. Take the monthly goal from above and divide it by the number of days you determined you will work on this goal (monthly goal / # of days you will work on goal = daily goal).

Example: Since I know there will be some days that I cannot work on this goal, let’s say I plan to work on it for 20 days this month. This means that I will need to walk/run/hike approximately 2 miles when I work on the goal (monthly goal 42 miles / 20 days = approximately 2 miles per day when I work on the goal).

So, for my goal this year, I need to walk/run/hike approximately 2 miles 20 days in a month.

Step 3: Make it achievable

Now, look at your goal. Does this seem like something you can actually achieve? If yes, then get to it!  If no, look at your goal and see where you can make a change so that it does seem like something you can achieve

Example: I need to ask myself, does it seem realistic to walk/run/hike approximately 2 miles 20 times per month? If yes, then I have a solid plan. If no, then what number does seem reasonable?

Step 4: Have a plan

Taking this a step further, you actually need to mark on your calendar what you plan to do each day. You can either plan it out a week at a time, or you can do it once a month.

Example: At the beginning of each month, I will mark in my calendar the days I will plan to walk.

If you are having a difficult time reaching your BIG health & wellness goals or are feeling so overwhelmed by simply getting started, follow my proven 4-step process:

  • Step 1 – Determine your top goal
  • Step 2 – Break it down
  • Step 3 – Make it achievable
  • Step 4 – Have a plan

Now you know the 4-step process to breaking down your health & wellness goals, you can apply it to your other goals by following the same process.  Keep the number of goals you are working on down to your top 1-3 goals.  Otherwise, it’s too many to keep track of, and you will quickly lose interest.
